Lippstadt/Jiaxing, December 11, 2013. The HELLA Group, one of the world's leading automotive suppliers, has once again extended its presence on the burgeoning Chinese market by investing 70 million Euros in a new production location in Jiaxing. The plant will commence operations in March 2014 and will turn out products designed for automotive lighting. With a workforce of approximately 1 000, the plant is set to achieve, in the medium term, an annual capacity of three million headlamps and 1.8 million combination rear lights. In addition, it is planned that this location will also be manufacturing other products for the purpose of automotive lighting, such as fog lights, daytime running lights and center high mounted stop lamps.

HELLA is continuously investing in the expansion of its international production and development network and has the growth markets of North America and Asia especially in its sights. Today already 47 percent of the company's sales comes from outside Europe, which means that regional fluctuations can be successfully counterbalanced. "China is an important market for us," explained Dr. Rolf Breidenbach, Chairman of the HELLA Management Board, on the occasion of the plant's inauguration on December 11. "During the 2012/2013 fiscal year, we were able to generate about eight percent of our total sales here on this market and we expect this amount to continue rising in the coming years. And so, for this reason, we are investing in the expansion of our structures on site with a goal-oriented approach." With a total surface area of approximately 87,000 square meters, this new plant constitutes the largest HELLA production location in China up to now.

Since the beginning of the 1980s, HELLA has been active on the Chinese market and has been making its presence felt there; since 1996 by means of joint ventures with production capacities. From that time on, the company has been extending its local presence there little by little and can now currently boast no less than ten production, development and administrative locations in Shanghai, Changchun, Beijing, Xiamen, Nanjing and Jiaxing. HELLA now employs more than 4,000 members of staff there, working throughout all the business divisions. As well as establishing and extending its own corporate capacities, HELLA most recently boosted relations to the Chinese producer FAWAY, a manufacturer with whom the company had founded a joint venture in 2012. Not only does that partnership consolidate relations to the Chinese brands but also to the individual cooperation networks with international producers operating on the Chinese market. "HELLA attaches a great deal of importance to the long-term development of the Chinese locations," underlines Jörg Buchheim, the HELLA CEO in China. "That is why we are steadily extending our production capacities and sales channels in the region. And what is more, we are increasingly developing and manufacturing more sophisticated technologies both for our Chinese and also for our international customers. One example of this is our Competence Center for radio transmitter keys and passive entry systems that has been set up in Shanghai."
