HELLA divides its business into the Automotive Original Equipment and Aftermarket segments. The Automotive Original Equipment segment comprises the Lighting and Electronics Business Divisions. The customer base for this segment is made up of automakers and other automotive suppliers. This segment is strongly driven by technology and innovation; in particular, the megatrends of LED use in Lighting and energy management and CO₂ reduction in Electronics offer attractive growth opportunities for both business divisions.

The Aftermarket segment includes the Independent Aftermarket (IAM) and the business with Special OE suppliers (SOE) such as manufacturers of buses, caravans, and agricultural and construction machinery. The Aftermarket segment is characterized by ongoing dynamic growth. Managing the different links in the value chain in the Aftermarket segment, consolidation among wholesalers, and the increasing technical sophistication required to accommodate increasingly complex electrical systems in vehicles all yield promising growth opportunities for HELLA.

To strategically grow the base for its business, HELLA has been systematically tapping into new customer target groups in the Industries business segment since 2008. The primary focus of this strategy is on translating the wealth of product, technology and process expertise HELLA has amassed in its core automotive business into useful and efficient applications in other sectors. The first step focuses in particular on innovative solution-based approaches to lighting for roads, airports and buildings, along with People Counters. more
